Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition

Thank you for your continued support of Family Harbor House!  This transitional housing for families has become a reality. It welcomed its first families on January 3, 2026. Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition (MMHC) works to end the cycle of homelessness for individual families in Waldo County, Maine through innovation and collaboration around affordable housing and this program is designed to do just that.

Family Harbor House is also seeking compassionate community members to  assist local families experiencing homelessness. Our transitional housing program provides a safe, welcoming place for parents and children to rest, regroup, and work toward stable, permanent housing. If you are interested in volunteer possibilities, fill out the form on this page.

Upcoming Event:

In-Person & Zoom Meeting for Family Harbor House Volunteers

Thursday, May 21, 2026, THURSDAY EVENING at 6PM and FRIDAY MORNING at 9am
Location: Belfast UU Church, 37 Miller Street (behind the library)

Hello fabulous volunteers helping at Family Harbor House. After getting your feedback from a survey of available times that you might have, we picked two dates to have in-person meetings with volunteers. You can join with us at the UU Church, or on Zoom.
The Sanctuary of the Belfast Unitarian Universalist Church is equipped for Zoom meetings, so we are using that location for our in-person meetings, and that way we can also easily connect anyone who wants to attend by Zoom. If you join by Zoom you will be able to listen and also speak and participate.
  •       Thursday evening, May 21, 6-7pm
  •       Friday morning, May 22, 9-10am
You can choose to attend either meeting that works best for you.  We will also send out a link to join by Zoom. We plan to keep the meeting to no more than an hour long.
We really value your help and service at Family Harbor House, and we would love to have your input, suggestions and/or answer questions related to the program and its operations.
- Thank you so much, David Beseda, Director of Family Harbor House

Meet One of Our Board Members

Suetta Tenney - M.D., F.A.C.P.
Board Treasurer
Suetta was impacted by growing up in a single-parent home, with two relatives with significant disabilities, living in an inner city. She carried these memories into community-based primary care. If patients did not feel listened to, they would not share the important, very private information that was critical to excellent holistic primary care. She trained in women’s health, addictions, mind-body medicine, geriatrics, ... (continued)

We continue to have our non-profit 501(C)3 status. We have now created transitional housing at 23 Mill Lane in Belfast. We now provide housing, nutrition, and support for 3 or 4 families at a time, using a mix of hired staff and community partners. With the support of local volunteers at the site, there is support for the families at night. We coordinate with many local organizations to provide case management and other services.

In addition, we continue to provide funds to prevent homelessness – assisting families who are in danger of losing their housing due to lack of resources, and briefly assisting with some utility payments or rent.
