Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition

Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition is looking for caring people to fill two part-time jobs at Family Harbor House. We need a Coordinator of Volunteers for 20-hours a week, and a person for Overnight Family Housing Support for 16-hours a week. See the details on our Current News page.

We are so pleased to share with you that the local organization, But Still I Am One, which has served at-risk youth in Waldo County since 2021, has joined us at Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition. (See “Youth Programs” in the menu above.) Now, community-based prevention, youth support, and Family Harbor House’s transitional housing services are all be under one organization.

Thank you for your continued support of Family Harbor House! This transitional housing for families has become a reality. It welcomed its first families on January 3, 2026, and now houses four families. In June 2026, one of the families was able to move out to a home of their own. Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition (MMHC) works to end the cycle of homelessness for individual families in Waldo County, Maine through innovation and collaboration around affordable housing and this program is designed to do just that.   Family Harbor House also seeks compassionate community members to assist local families experiencing homelessness. Our transitional housing program provides a safe, welcoming place for parents and children to rest, regroup, and work toward stable, permanent housing. If you are interested in volunteer possibilities, fill out the form on this page. You can join the 110 persons already approved and trained to volunteer.

  • Whitecap Builders

Whitecap Builders donated the needed design work for the development of Family Harbor House on the lower level of Belfast United Methodist Church. Then a crew from Whitecap Builders worked tirelessly to make all the changes and upgrades needed. They did this without cost to MMHC to support the creation of transitional housing for families in need.

Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition, a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization, has created transitional housing at 23 Mill Lane in Belfast. We provide housing, nutrition, and support for 3 or 4 families at a time, using a mix of hired staff and community partners. With the support of local volunteers at the site, there is support for the families at night. We coordinate with many local organizations to provide case management and other services.   In addition, we continue to provide funds to prevent homelessness – assisting families who are in danger of losing their housing due to lack of resources, and briefly assisting with some utility payments or rent.
