Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition

We are thrilled and so pleased to share with you that the local organization, But Still I Am One, which has served at-risk youth in Waldo County since 2021, has joined us at Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition. Now, community-based prevention, youth support, and Family Harbor House’s transitional housing services will all be under one organization. See “Programs for Youth” in the menu above.

Thank you for your continued support of Family Harbor House! This transitional housing for families has become a reality. It welcomed its first families on January 3, 2026, and now houses four families. Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition (MMHC) works to end the cycle of homelessness for individual families in Waldo County, Maine through innovation and collaboration around affordable housing and this program is designed to do just that.

Family Harbor House also seeks compassionate community members to assist local families experiencing homelessness. Our transitional housing program provides a safe, welcoming place for parents and children to rest, regroup, and work toward stable, permanent housing. If you are interested in volunteer possibilities, fill out the form on this page. You can join the 106 persons already approved and trained to volunteer.

Starting in Providence, Rhode Island, I had a supportive home and loving parents who encouraged responsibility, kindness, and caring. This stability allowed us to explore interests, leading us to professions that sustain us and benefit family, community, and society. Most of my career has been in the computer industry, while I have also pursued poetry, technical writing, and novel writing. Owning older homes taught me building trades, while raising two sons here in Maine all ... (continued)

Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition, a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization, has created transitional housing at 23 Mill Lane in Belfast. We provide housing, nutrition, and support for 3 or 4 families at a time, using a mix of hired staff and community partners. With the support of local volunteers at the site, there is support for the families at night. We coordinate with many local organizations to provide case management and other services. In addition, we continue to provide funds to prevent homelessness – assisting families who are in danger of losing their housing due to lack of resources, and briefly assisting with some utility payments or rent.
