Community Support Programs

NA

MMHC offers community-based programs to empower youth (16-21 years old) who may be facing home insecurity.

PEX Program:

A one time prepaid Visa card, or PEX card, is available to youth who are facing home insecurity in Waldo County.  The program provides opportunities for them to make their own decisions about expenses, learn budgeting, and have more control over their lives.

Each qualifying youth is given a card and information regarding other resources that may be useful to them. They may be referred by a school counselor or a community organization, such as a social support organization, a church, or the Belfast Teen Center.

Driver’s Education Program:

Funding for driver’s education is available for youth aged 16-21 who are home insecure. Youth can get a referral from a school counselor or a community organization to apply for funding. An adult over 20 years old must sponsor them for the required driving hours needed to take the state driver’s education exam (see link below for more details).  If approved, full funding for the program will be paid to the driving school.
