Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition

Thank you for your continued support of Family Harbor House!  This transitional housing for families has become a reality. It welcomed its first families on January 3, 2026. Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition (MMHC) works to end the cycle of homelessness for individual families in Waldo County, Maine through innovation and collaboration around affordable housing and this program is designed to do just that.

Family Harbor House is also seeking compassionate community members to  assist local families experiencing homelessness. Our transitional housing program provides a safe, welcoming place for parents and children to rest, regroup, and work toward stable, permanent housing. If you are interested in volunteer possibilities, fill out the form on this page.

Board Member
Rev. Steve Alspach is the pastor of the Congregational Church of Sandy Point. He is currently Vice-Convenor of the Greater Belfast Area Ministerium (GBAM) with Chaplain Jean Ashland.
During his lifelong ministry as an Intentional Interim and as a Settled Minister, he has been involved in a number of community initiatives, including weekly community meals, unemployed support and networking groups, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Habitat for Humanity ... (continued)

We continue to have our non-profit 501(C)3 status. We have now created transitional housing at 23 Mill Lane in Belfast. We now provide housing, nutrition, and support for 3 or 4 families at a time, using a mix of hired staff and community partners. With the support of local volunteers at the site, there is support for the families at night. We coordinate with many local organizations to provide case management and other services.

In addition, we continue to provide funds to prevent homelessness – assisting families who are in danger of losing their housing due to lack of resources, and briefly assisting with some utility payments or rent.
